Anyone managing a shared server or reselling hosting faces the same calculation every year: what does a control panel really cost, and how much changes when switching between products? As of 29 October 2026, the three public price lists — DirectAdmin, cPanel/WHM and Plesk — tell three different pricing stories. We've opened each one in turn.
Three licensing models
DirectAdmin sells fixed-tier licences with no per-account surcharge. From the official price list at directadmin.com: Personal PLUS at $5/month (2 accounts, 20 domains), Lite at $15/month (10 accounts, 50 domains), Standard at $29/month, with automatic 15% discount on retail licences after four Standard licences (or equivalent), rising to 40% at thirty-five licences.
cPanel/WHM, from the official price list at cpanel.net, works on strict tiers: Solo at $29.99/month for 1 account, Admin at $35.99/month up to 5, Pro at $53.99/month up to 30, Premier at $69.99/month up to 100 accounts, with $0.49 for each additional account beyond 100. Annual billing brings an 8.4% discount on Solo, Admin and Pro (not Premier, sold monthly only). A detail worth noting if you're migrating: to purchase a monthly cPanel & WHM licence you need the server's public static IP address — a requirement that DirectAdmin doesn't impose in the same way.
Plesk, from the official price list at plesk.com, is licenced per server and by number of domains: Web Admin Edition at €12.04/month (10 domains), Web Pro Edition at €18.29/month (30 domains), Web Host Edition at €31.38/month (unlimited domains), prices for the VPS licence. The site clarifies that a dedicated licence can be installed on physical or virtual server, while the VPS one only on virtual, with no feature differences between the two — so the dedicated/VPS choice depends on infrastructure, not budget.
Comparison table, 50–100 account tier
| Panel | Suitable licence | Monthly price | Account/domain limit | Commitment discount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DirectAdmin | Standard | $29 | Unlimited | 15–40% from 4 to 35 licences |
| cPanel/WHM | Premier | $69.99 | 100, then +$0.49/account | 8.4% annual (not Premier) |
| Plesk | Web Host Edition (VPS) | €31.38 | Unlimited domains | Partner discounts 15–45% from $500/month |
What changes in practice
At the 50–100 account tier, the comparison on bare list price is clear-cut: DirectAdmin Standard stays fixed at $29/month regardless of account numbers under that ceiling, cPanel Premier starts at $69.99/month and grows with each account beyond 100, Plesk Web Host Edition is tied to unlimited domains but not to hosting accounts in the same way as cPanel/DirectAdmin. If you're billing few accounts per server you gain little from DirectAdmin savings; if you scale beyond 100 you see it immediately in the cPanel bill.
The practical advice remains to check the price list on purchase day: DirectAdmin has changed prices before, announcing it on its official forum, and Plesk has announced on its site a price revision from 1 January 2026 affecting renewals after that date.
