Domain renewal 2026: .it, .com, .eu pricing compared

Anyone managing domains for clients knows this: the price shown on a registrar's homepage is rarely what you'll pay the following year. We checked the official price lists of three registrars on 14 October 2026 to see what a .it, .com or .eu domain really costs over time.

Official price lists, checked today

From Register.it's public price list: .it, .com, .eu, .net, .org, .info, .mobi cost €58.55 excluding VAT for registration, €58.55 excluding VAT for renewal in band A and €50.55 excluding VAT for renewal in band B, with €58.55 excluding VAT for transfer. Those registering a .it today using the promotion get the first year free, but the offer "Free .it instead of €58.55 + VAT" applies only to the first year and cannot be applied to renewals and transfers—at renewal you pay the list price of €58.55 + VAT: from €0 to €58.55 overnight.

On Aruba the picture is different. According to the official price list, .it, .eu and geographic domains renew at €11.99 + VAT per year, whilst .com, .net and .org cost €14.99 + VAT per year. The current promotion running until 16 December 2026 brings the first year to much lower figures: registering or transferring a .com domain costs €4.99 + VAT for the first year, €14.99 + VAT at renewal; for a .eu you pay €1.99 + VAT in year one, €11.99 + VAT at renewal.

OVHcloud, checked on the official domains page, shows renewals lower than both Italian registrars: .it at €2.99 + VAT in year one with renewal at €8.99 + VAT, .com at €7.99 + VAT with renewal at €14.29 + VAT, .eu at €7.49 + VAT with renewal at €8.59 + VAT.

The catch to check before clicking "buy"

The clearest case is Register.it: the jump from free domain to €58.55 + VAT at renewal is not an exception in the price list, it's the rule written in the promotion terms. On Aruba the multiplier is more modest but still present, from under one euro to nearly twelve euros for a .it. On OVHcloud the gap between year one and renewal is the tightest of the three.

Two practical warnings for those quoting to a client. First: recovering an expired .it domain on Register.it costs €50.51 according to the registrar's tariffs. Second: on Aruba, for international gTLDs such as .com in redemption status beyond 40 days from expiry, an additional recovery cost of €100 applies. It's worth setting up automatic renewal and a separate reminder, because the error margin on these amounts is not insignificant.
