cPanel aggiunge AI App Hosting: deploy guidato di app Node.js da WHM 138

cPanel has published a technical brief on its blog about AI App Hosting, the feature that brings a guided workflow into Meridian for deploying Node.js applications generated with AI coding tools. The author is Ivan Postnikov, product manager for Website Tools at cPanel. For those managing a multi-tenant control panel, the practical question is straightforward: what needs to be installed and which accounts can use it.

What you need to enable it

cPanel & WHM version 138.0.13 was released on 5 October 2026, the latest build in a branch that started months earlier: cPanel & WHM Version 138 was introduced on 27 July 2026. AI App Hosting is not therefore tied to a last-minute release, but to a stable foundation that hosting providers have already been able to test.

Requirement Value
Minimum cPanel & WHM version 138 or later
Activation must be enabled by the provider (WHM Feature Manager)
MySQL connection from AI App Hosting 1.3.5-1 with Meridian 1.4.0-1 or later
App runtime rootless containers managed by Podman, with resource limits

Two deployment methods

The feature accepts a ZIP file or Git repository, with a guided setup for SSH key configuration for private repositories. Alternatively, an external AI agent (for example Claude Code) can perform the deployment by connecting via WebPros MCP, using the same hosting APIs. After the initial deployment, the Manage view exposes environment variables, downloadable logs and controls for start, stop and restart; Redeploy updates the code from Git or reapplies the configuration.

Why Node.js and not just PHP

cPanel justifies the choice with data on server-side language usage: PHP is used by 69.3% of all sites whose server-side programming language is known, according to the W3Techs survey of 21 October 2026, a declining but still overwhelmingly dominant share. The point from the source is that the most widely used AI coding tools (v0, Lovable with TanStack Start) generate Node.js applications with server-side logic, so the control panel must be able to run them, not just serve them as static files.

What's still missing

cPanel states it is working on self-healing controls to automatically restart applications that crash, with limits on restart attempts, and support for Python applications planned for 2027. Those managing hosting packages will need to verify, package by package, whether the provider has already enabled the AI App Builder extension: without the "all" ACL permission, resellers cannot add it or create Nova packages, as reported in the changelog for build 138.0.7 from 14 September 2026.
