OVHcloud has upgraded its membership of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) to Platinum level, the highest tier offered by the foundation that hosts projects such as Kubernetes, Prometheus and Envoy. The announcement was made on 7 October 2026 in Prague, during the Open Source Summit Europe.\n\nFor anyone running Kubernetes-based infrastructure or evaluating a European cloud provider with open governance, the key fact is this: OVHcloud becomes the only cloud provider headquartered in Europe to reach the CNCF's top membership tier, one of just three European entities among the foundation's 19 Platinum members, alongside global providers such as AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle.\n\nThe CNCF, part of the Linux Foundation, counts nearly 800 members and over 200 startups. The tier upgrade also brings a seat on the decision-making board: becoming a Platinum member means joining the CNCF Governing Board, the body that steers the foundation and its strategic direction; OVHcloud is already represented there by Yaniv Fdida, Chief Product and Technology Officer, in his capacity as a Platinum member representative.\n\n## The numbers behind the Kubernetes infrastructure\n\nThe technical weight behind the announcement can be verified through concrete operational data. The Managed Kubernetes Service runs thousands of production clusters across 20 public cloud regions, using Cilium for networking, observability and security in multi-tenant environments. On top of this, there's a code contribution dating back to 2020: the company contributed a Kubernetes Operator to Harbor, supporting lifecycle management for the open-source container registry.\n\nOn the AI front, AI Deploy and the Managed Kubernetes Service gained approval through the foundation's Kubernetes AI Conformance Program in March 2026, a programme that establishes a community-shared baseline for running AI and machine learning workloads on Kubernetes.\n\nIn terms of positioning, OVHcloud ties the upgrade to the theme of sovereignty: as AI workloads in production continue to grow, maintaining infrastructure flexibility across public, private and hybrid environments has become a critical operational priority, while Gartner forecasts European sovereign cloud spending to reach $12.6 billion in 2026.\n\nFor those wanting to dig deeper into the technical details, OVHcloud will be present at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2026 in Salt Lake City this November, with a talk on software supply chain security in containers.\n
