USN-8942-1: Ubuntu patcha .NET 8, 10 e 11 a 20 giorni dalla fine supporto di .NET 8

Ubuntu published security notice USN-8942-1 on 20 October 2026, updating .NET packages across supported releases. This affects anyone running ASP.NET Core applications or .NET services on Ubuntu VPS or dedicated servers, where the runtime comes from system repositories rather than a manual installation.

What's changing

The notice covers three .NET branches simultaneously: .NET 8 has been updated to 8.0.32 on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, .NET 10 has been updated to 10.0.13 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and Ubuntu 26.10, whilst .NET 11 has been updated to 11.0.0~rc2 on Ubuntu 26.10.

Ubuntu Release Package Version
22.04 LTS (jammy) dotnet8 / aspnetcore-runtime-8.0 8.0.132-8.0.32-0ubuntu1~22.04.1
24.04 LTS (noble) dotnet8 8.0.132-8.0.32-0ubuntu1~24.04.1
24.04 LTS (noble) dotnet10 10.0.113-10.0.13-0ubuntu1~24.04.1
26.04 LTS (resolute) dotnet10 10.0.113-10.0.13-0ubuntu1~26.04.1
26.10 (stonking) dotnet10 10.0.113-10.0.13-0ubuntu1~26.10.1
26.10 (stonking) dotnet11 11.0.100-11.0.0rc2-0ubuntu126.10.1

The update is applied using the standard apt update && apt upgrade on machines with standard repositories enabled. The notice lists a total of 46 CVEs across visible references and the extended list on the official page.

The deadline that matters for .NET 8 users

Anyone still managing servers on .NET 8 faces a bigger problem than a single patch: support for .NET 8 ends on 10 November 2026, after which Microsoft will no longer issue security fixes. From today, that's 20 days away. .NET 9 reaches end of support on the same day as .NET 8, so it's not an escape route: once support ends on 10 November 2026, the only way to continue receiving fixes is to move to .NET 10, an LTS release supported until 14 November 2028.

For administrators managing Ubuntu servers with .NET 8 applications in production, this USN could be among the final security updates before upstream EOL: it's worth planning the migration to .NET 10 now, verifying library and dependency compatibility before packages stop receiving patches.
